Niger’s ousted president turns to the US for help

0views

The ousted President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, turned to the United States and the international community for help.

He asks for help to restore constitutional order in the country, where the rebel military has seized power.

In our hour of need, I call on the US government and the entire international community to help us restore constitutional order, –TASS publication of Bazoum in The Washington Post.

The only way

The president, removed from government, named the only way to achieve progress in the fight against poverty and terrorism.

In his view, this is the need to work together to “fight for our common values, including democratic pluralism and respect for the rule of law.”

In the turbulent Sahel region, Niger “is a bastion of respect for human rights among authoritarian movements,” he notes.

These movements, continues Bazoum, have taken over some of Niger’s neighboring countries.

A tragedy

He calls what happened in his state a tragedy for local residents.

And if the coup is successful, there will be “catastrophic consequences far beyond our borders.”

Bazoum believes that, given the “open invitation from the coup organizers and their allies in the region,” the entire Sahel region is under threat.

The ousted president does not exclude the possibility that this region may come under Russian influence due to the participation of the Wagner PMC.

“Wagner”

He reports that the security situation in his country is much better than in neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso, where those who seized power by force rule.

And he adds that in these states, governments resort to “Wagnerian” help instead of “responding to security concerns by strengthening their own capabilities.”

Separately, the leader of Niger noted that he prepared this article while being in hostage status.
