“No and never”: the President of Georgia spoke about her position on pardoning Saakashvili

0views

The current President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, commented on the potential possibility of pardoning one of her predecessors, Mikheil Saakashvili.

The Georgian leader said that she would never take such a step.

Zurabishvili made a corresponding statement during a meeting with local politicians, as well as with representatives of the EU and the USA.

The politician emphasized that she is ready to do a lot for the interests of Georgia. However, she has not changed her opinion about the potential pardon of the imprisoned ex-president of the country.

My position on pardoning Mikheil Saakashvili is firm and unchanged: no and never… – MIA quotes Salome Zurabishvili as saying.

The politician also noted that she was no longer going to return to this issue.

Let us remind you that Mikheil Saakashvili was detained by Georgian law enforcement officers early last month after his return from Ukraine to Georgia.

The fact is that earlier in his homeland criminal cases were initiated against the politician and sentences were passed in absentia.

Saakashvili was the president of Georgia from 2004 to 2013. Zurabishvili has held this post since the end of 2018.
