Norway agreed to allow cargo from Russia to Spitsbergen

48views

Norway has agreed to allow cargo for Russian settlements on Spitsbergen to pass through its territory.

The cargo is already on the ship heading to Spitsbergen.

A Norwegian television company reported this on July 6, citing the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

How the situation was resolved

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry reported that Russian containers are transported on a Norwegian truck from the Storskog checkpoint on the border in Tromso and further by sea to Spitsbergen.

The cargo is already on the ship, which is heading towards the archipelago, – reported the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.

According to Norwegian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Ane Lunde, this decision was the result of a dialogue with Moscow.

The representative of the department explained that Norway never had the goal of blocking the supply of Russian cargo to Spitsbergen in general and to Barentsburg in particular, but due to sanctions it was impossible to transport cargo on a truck registered in the Russian Federation.

It was transported to Tromso by a Norwegian transport company, – said the diplomat.

Let us recall that at the end of June Norway refused to allow cargo for Russian settlements on Spitsbergen to pass through the Storskog checkpoint.
