Not only Lithuania, but also Latvia faces problems of illegal migration.
On Monday, July 26, Latvian border guards detained nine people who illegally entered the territory of the Baltic country.
The incident occurred in the Kraslavsky district, which borders the Republic of Belarus.
This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Latvia.
The illegal immigrants presented themselves as Iraqi citizens. All of them were detained. At the moment, migrants are being held at a center for accommodating foreigners.
Latvian law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case regarding illegal border crossing.
Situation in Latvia in 2021
The situation described above has become the fifth case of an entire group of illegal immigrants entering the territory of Latvia this year.
For comparison: in 2020, the total number of violators who illegally crossed the country’s state border was 23.
Latvian border guards noted the importance of the actions of local residents in the fight against illegal migration. Law enforcement officers thanked citizens for their help.
