The American edition of The New York Times writes that the United States did not fulfill the main desire of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
According to the publication, Zelensky, during his visit to Washington, was unable to obtain supplies of combat aircraft, high-precision long-range missiles and tanks from the United States.
How was Zelensky’s visit to the USA?
The article says that the triumphant visit of the Ukrainian President to Washington ended with the promise of multibillion-dollar aid.
But not what he wanted most – said in the publication.
The authors of the article do not rule out that the Ukrainian president will still be able to receive the desired assistance, since the boundaries of American support have shifted towards Kyiv.
It is noted that Zelensky’s visit clearly demonstrated his dual strategy of “ingratiation and pressure on allies”: he knew that he would not get everything he asked for, but believes that his constant requests, combined with instability at the front, will force Washington to reconsider its principles.
Let us remember that during his visit to Washington, Zelensky met with US President Joseph Biden and spoke in Congress.
The White House announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth $1.85 billion, including Patriot air defense systems, 37 Cougar armored vehicles, 500 precision artillery shells, grenade launchers, mines, and small arms.
The US Senate subsequently approved a draft budget for the 2023 fiscal year in the amount of 1.7 trillion dollars, 45 billion of which will go to support Ukraine and Washington’s allies in the North Atlantic Alliance.
