Two outbreaks of infection with the dangerous fungus Candida auris have been reported among patients in US medical institutions.

This fungus is known to be drug resistant. Infections have been recorded in Texas and Washington. The disease is difficult to treat and diagnose.

Presumably, the infection occurred after contact with a carrier of the fungus or a contaminated surface.

Doctors warn that Candida auris is transmitted from person to person and is difficult to treat and diagnose.

People first started talking about the fungus in 2009. It was discovered in Japan, but soon spread very quickly throughout all countries and continents.

Prior to this case, an outbreak of Candida auris was observed in 2019 in UK hospitals, when 200 people were infected, of whom 8 died.

In Washington, from the beginning of this year until April, 101 cases of infection were detected.

During the same period, 22 cases were identified in Texas.

In both the first and second cases, the mortality rate was 30% within 30 days.

were unable to detect links between outbreaks in different regions. It is possible that the fungus was simply transmitted from patient to patient.
