Pacheco, Amorim and Marina board a plane with Lula to the UN

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) embarked for the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) this Saturday morning (21) accompanied by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, and the special advisor for international affairs to the Presidency of the Republic, Celso Amorim.

The presidential plane is expected to land in New York late this Saturday afternoon (21).

For the second year, Pacheco is going as a representative of the National Congress on the UN agenda to attend Lula’s speech. He must be accompanied by the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), who leaves for the United States this Sunday (22). Lira did not travel with Lula’s entourage, citing commitments in Alagoas this Saturday.

Lula’s schedule in New York

On Monday (23), there are four appointments on the President of the Republic’s agenda, all concentrated in the afternoon. A bilateral meeting is planned with the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen and another with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti, Garry Conille.

The president also has agendas at the Clinton Global Initiative and participates in the annual Goalkeepers initiative awards, organized by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Tuesday (24) is the most anticipated date on the entire agenda, with the opening of the General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Traditionally, it is the Brazilian president’s task to make the first speech.

On the same day, Lula is expected to meet with the President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and participate in an event in defense of democracy and combating extremism.

The PT member ends Tuesday’s agenda in a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

On Wednesday (25), Lula participates in the opening of the G20 Ministerial meeting.
