The president of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), is expected to discuss proposals that establish restrictions on online betting after the first round of municipal elections.

According to party leaders, Pacheco signaled that he intends to deal with the projects within the scope of the college of leaders to define the procedure and the eventual vote.

In the Legislative House, there are initiatives to restrict beneficiaries from using Bolsa Família resources to place bets. Other texts defend the restriction of advertising and the prohibition of games involving electoral results.

Senators from the allied base say that the idea is to try to build a “package” to be voted on this year.

The bill that legalizes gambling in Brazil should also be on the discussion agenda.

The initiative has already been approved by the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) and is awaiting discussion in the plenary session of the Legislative House.

Behind the scenes, however, government officials recognize that problems involving online betting could delay the processing of gambling.

The president (PT) was angered by the negative repercussion of the Central Bank report. A survey showed that, in August alone, Bolsa Família beneficiaries bet R$3 billion in bets.

Opposition parties have exploited the episode to criticize the PT government, dubbing the social benefit “Bolsa Bet”.
