Rare representatives of the fauna from the order of placental mammals – pangolins – can harm the reputation of China.

But not on their own, but because of accusations against China from the United States, which suspected the Celestial Empire of smuggling these animals.

In this regard, official Beijing appealed to official Washington not to spoil China’s reputation with such accusations, – MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

Biden Statement

Officials at the Chinese Embassy in the United States assure that their country is fulfilling its obligations to protect pangolins.

Previously, Joe Biden said that he would save these mammals from extinction.

He intends to do this by trying to get China (including through the threat of sanctions) to stop the import and use for medical purposes of the only scaly mammals on the planet.

It is worth noting that pangolin scales are very, very valuable in traditional medicine.

Biden, in a notice to Congress, said that these animals are captured and smuggled more often than “rhinos, elephants and tigers combined.”

Presidential orders

The American leader ordered that China “completely close the domestic market for pangolins and fragments of their bodies.”

He also ordered the complete removal of these mammals from the national list of approved medications.

Biden said that he expects the corresponding results, according to the orders given, by the end of the year.

And at the same time, the owner of the White House threatened the Celestial Empire with imposing sanctions against it if animal smuggling continues.

Beijing’s response

China categorically objects to attempts to use the issue of protecting pangolins in order to harm the reputation of the PRC, this is how the press secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Liu Pengyu, reacted.

According to him, Beijing is fulfilling its obligations to protect pangolins and prevent smuggling and illegal trade in these animals.
