Pashinyan explained what his statement about freezing Armenia’s participation in the CSTO means

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained what his earlier statement about freezing Yerevan’s participation in the CSTO means.

According to the politician, so far this has happened de facto, and when it is formalized de jure, this will mean, among other things, the absence of an Armenian permanent representative at the organization.

In addition, Armenia will continue its non-participation in CSTO events at high and senior levels.

“Why should we participate”

We have not had a permanent representative in the CSTO for a year now, we have not participated in CSTO events at high and senior levels for a long time, – notification from the Prime Minister of MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

He specified: Yerevan is not blocking anything, but it is not participating either, since it has not received an answer “why we should participate.”

Before this, last week, Nikol Pashinyan announced the suspension of his country’s participation in the CSTO.

The politician justified the decision by the fact that the latter, in his opinion, does not fulfill the terms of the Collective Security Treaty in relation to Yerevan.

National Security Threat

According to Pashinyan, the CSTO does not fulfill its security obligations and “creates problems.”

This approach is a threat to the national security of Armenia,” said the prime minister of the Transcaucasian republic.

He accused the CSTO of acting “contrary to its own obligations to ensure a proper position regarding the security of Armenia.”

In other words, Pashinyan explained, the opposite of what should be done is being done.

De-facto and de-jure

Now we have de facto frozen, and if this process continues, we will freeze de jure,” warned the head of the Armenian government.

And he added: Yerevan never expected military intervention from the CSTO in the conflict with Azerbaijan.

According to him, Armenia hoped for a political assessment of the situation from the organization.

Earlier, Pashinyan said that Armenia had suspended participation in the CSTO.
