It became known that in the United States they began to refuse organ transplant operations for patients who have not been vaccinated against coronavirus infection.
The incident was reported by the local Washington Post. According to journalists, the first case occurred in Colorado.
The publication, citing state representative Tim Geithner, reports that the city of Colorado Springs denied a kidney transplant to a woman who had not been vaccinated against coronavirus.
It is reported that the patient was notified of the refusal in writing. The letter states that she is blocked from the transplant waiting list.
The situation can be corrected within 30 days by completing a vaccination course, otherwise her name will be removed from the list of patients.
On the same day, it became known that UCHealth confirmed the need for COVID-19 vaccination along with other mandatory vaccinations and medical requirements.
The decision is supported by other American transplant centers.
It is believed that this need arose due to the high risk of death of the patient when infected with COVID-19 after an organ transplant.
In addition, the risk of transmission of the virus from donor to recipient cannot be excluded.
