PF arrests 36 candidates with open arrest warrants

The Federal Police arrested 36 candidates in the municipal elections who had outstanding arrest warrants. Court orders were complied with over the last week in ten states. The PF set up a task force to capture all politicians.

The candidates were arrested for different reasons. The list of crimes is diverse:

  • Association for drug trafficking;
  • Drug trafficking;
  • Active corruption and illegal possession of firearms;
  • Criminal organization and promotion of illegal immigration – including children and adolescents;
  • Non-payment of alimony;
  • Abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law;
  • Rape of a minor and sexual crime.

The PF complied with all warrants before 11pm this Friday (20). According to electoral rules, 15 days before the first round of municipal elections, no candidate for the positions of councilor, mayor and vice-mayor can be arrested. The rule is valid until October 8, two days after the election.

The arrests took place in Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Sul, Maranhão, Paraná, Sergipe, Roraima, Mato Grosso do Sul, Acre and Santa Catarina.

In Minas Gerais, for example, 11 were arrested in association with drug trafficking, drug trafficking, active corruption and illegal possession of firearms.

One of these 36 prisoners with an open arrest warrant was, in the interior of São Paulo, by the PRTB. He was arrested in São José do Rio Preto (SP) late this Friday afternoon (20) for participating in the acts of January 8 last year, as reported by the CNN.
