PF lists suspects of causing fire in the National Park

20views

The Federal Police (PF) is listing suspects for having caused the fire in the Brasília National Forest. For the PF, there is evidence that the fire started due to human causes.

The names, however, are kept confidential at this time so as not to compromise the progress of the investigations.

Investigators told the reporter that further investigations will be necessary to confirm all the signs and names.

Precautionary measures must be requested from the Court against the suspects. Precautions are a way for the judge to impose measures to protect the assets involved, without arresting the person.

Regarding possible coordinated actions by those involved, the PF says it is premature to evaluate, but it is not a ruled out hypothesis.

This investigation is part of the 52 investigations opened by the PF to determine the cause of the fires throughout Brazil since the beginning of the year, in the Amazon, in the Pantanal and in the interior of São Paulo.

There is currently one from the Directorate of Environment and Amazon (Damaz) at the PF, in Brasília, with the states. From recent months until this month, the Federal Police defined action protocols and lines of action for investigations.

The fire in the National Forest has been burning for two days. The Federal District Fire Department, with the help of firefighters from ICMBio, IBRAM and the National Park’s own team, continues to fight the flames, with a team of more than 250 fighters.

With the fires devastating huge swaths of vegetation, smoke and soot filled the sky over the capital and left dozens of administrative regions in the DF with unclean air.
