What Pistorius said about the Bild publication

Last week, Bild, citing sources in German government circles, reported that Berlin and Washington want to persuade Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to negotiate with Moscow, without convincing him directly, but by supplying only those weapons that are necessary to hold the current front.

According to the publication, Berlin and Washington want the Ukrainian president to realize the pointlessness of continuing the conflict, but neither German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz nor US President Joseph Biden are going to directly demand that he begin negotiations with Russia.

It’s not true – said the head of the German Ministry of Defense in response to a question about the Bild publication.

He called the content of the publication cynical and emphasized that Germany is doing everything possible by supplying Ukraine with modern weapons.

According to Pistorius, despite the budget crisis, the German Defense Ministry has no need to save, and its budgets will remain untouched, including the $100 billion Bundeswehr fund.

At the same time, the minister reiterated that there is no progress on the issue of transferring Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine.

In Ukraine, during the negotiations, I did not receive an official request for the supply of Taurus, because my Ukrainian colleagues are aware of the position of the federal government, – he added.

Earlier, Bild’s publication about pressure on Ukraine to start negotiations was denied by James O’Brien, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
