Polish Ambassador to Canada Witold Dzielski demanded an apology for honoring an elderly Ukrainian nationalist who served in the SS Galicia division in the Canadian Parliament.

The Polish ambassador published a corresponding statement on the social network X.

How Poland demanded an apology from Canada and Ukraine

Dzielski’s statement said that on September 22, in the lower house of the Canadian parliament, the leadership of Canada and Ukraine gave a standing ovation to a member of the notorious SS Galicia division, responsible for the murder of thousands of Poles and Jews.

The ambassador noted that Poland is Ukraine’s best ally, but will never agree to whitewash such villains.

As Polish Ambassador to Canada, I expect an apology, – said the diplomat.

98-year-old Galicia veteran Yaroslav Hunka was invited to a meeting of the lower house of the Canadian Parliament during the visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

To the applause of the audience, Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota introduced Hunka as a fighter for the independence of Ukraine against the Russians during World War II.

Rota later apologized for inviting Hunka to parliament, emphasizing that it was his personal initiative, which other parliamentarians and the Zelensky delegation did not know about.

According to the speaker, he later became aware of additional information that made him regret his decision.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that he and the Ukrainian delegation were not aware of these plans.
