Poland additionally sent more than 250 police officers, as well as special equipment, to the border with Belarus.

Detachments from Gdańsk, Gožuvá, Kraków, Olsztyn, Szczecin and Wroclaw were sent there.

Belta reported this with reference to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), which in turn refers to a statement by the press secretary of the Polish Main Police Directorate, Katarzyna Nowak.

The additional forces include more than 250 police officers; now in the border zone with Belarus we have 370 police officers, – she said.

She also listed the cities (mentioned above) from where detachments were sent to the border.

In addition, the spokeswoman noted, counter-terrorism forces, dog handlers and officers from other police services were also sent to the specified location.

Water cannons and searchlights were also delivered there, she said.

Before this, the Police Headquarters stated that the police would provide support to the border guards and the military.

Warsaw explains the increase in police force on the border with Belarus by the increased number of cases of migrant attacks on soldiers and officers serving in the border zone.

Also stated as an argument is the need to train police units to protect public order.

These units were sent there primarily to train both the army and border guards to operate in compact units. We, as police officers, have extensive experience here,” Novak said.

Earlier it became known that Poland would spend $2.5 billion to strengthen its borders with Belarus and Russia.
