Polish carriers blocking the border with Ukraine will intensify protests if the Polish government does not solve the problem with Ukrainian cargo.
This information was voiced on the Polish radio RMF FM by Tomasz Borkowski, a representative of the Committee for the Protection of Carriers and Employers.
What’s happening on the border between Poland and Ukraine
As Borkovsky said, the main demand of the protesters is the restoration of commercial transportation permits for drivers from Ukraine.
According to him, over the past year, 12,000 transport companies have been created in Ukraine, which leads to unfair competition.
We give our government until Thursday, then we escalate the protest, – Borkovsky said on air.
The trade union leader did not specify what the tightening of the protest would consist of.
The day before, the European Commission rejected Poland’s demand to restore the permit system for carriers from Ukraine that existed before February last year. European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean called this idea unacceptable.
The head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki, stated that the country would resolutely strive to restore the previous system.
In early November, Polish carriers blocked road checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.
Protesters are demanding the restoration of the permit system for carriers from Ukraine, the suspension of licenses of Ukrainian companies created after February last year, and the separation of queues of empty and loaded trucks.
On the Polish side, the line of trucks reaches 50 km, two Ukrainian drivers have already died in it.
