Politico writes that the administration of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was furious at the statement of the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, about the impossibility of ousting Russian troops.

What General Milley said

On January 20, the head of the US Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are unlikely to be able to oust Russian troops from all occupied territories this year.

Speaking at a press conference following a regular meeting to support Ukraine at the US Ramstein airbase in Germany, Milley noted that from a military point of view this is “a very difficult battle” and that the Ukrainian Armed Forces need to continue to defend and stabilize the front line.

The general also said that the conflict in Ukraine will likely be resolved through negotiations, the start dates of which should be determined by Kyiv and Moscow.
