21views

Flooding occurred in Spain due to heavy rains.

The downpours that began in Spain on the morning of September 1 flooded a number of settlements in different regions.

City streets turned into rivers of mud, and cars were swept away by streams of water. Authorities advised people not to leave their homes.

Catalonia and Valencia suffered the most. In the municipality of Alcanar (Tarragona), 5,500 people were left without electricity.

The railway connection between the towns of Tortosa and Aldea was interrupted.

In the capital of the country, Madrid, there were also heavy rains; due to flooding, sections of some metro lines did not work, tunnels were closed, and trains ran late.

According to the state meteorological agency AEMET, most of the country is at an increased alert level.

The orange alert level is in effect in Madrid, Aragon, Valencia, Castile-la-Mancha, Murcia and Navarre.

Forecasters predict that the showers will continue tomorrow.
