The president of the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee, Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO), states that Gabriel Galípolo should have no problems as president of the Central Bank and is betting on the economist’s unanimous victory.

“I believe that today he will have unanimity. In the plenary, it should happen in the same way. All the senators have admiration for him, for his conduct, for the respectful way he treated all the senators when he was here. He went from cabinet to cabinet. talked to all the senators,” he told CNNbefore opening the CAE session this Tuesday (08).

The expectation is that he will repeat, in the CAE, the feat of , who has a mandate until December 31st of this year as BC president, and was unanimously approved by the Commission among the parliamentarians present. In the plenary vote, which took place in February 2019, the candidate then appointed by former president Jair Bolsonaro had 55 votes in favor, six against and one abstention.

The votes on Galípolo’s nomination, both in the Commission and in the plenary, are secret and should take place this Tuesday.

Galípolo is seen as an “old acquaintance of the house” for having gone through the same process last year, when he was appointed to the Monetary Policy directorate at the Central Bank, a position he currently holds. He has a good dialogue with parliamentarians from the base and the opposition and is often praised for his positions in the BC.
