Presidential candidate killed at rally in Ecuador

In Ecuador, an election rally in the capital ended in death for one of the country’s presidential candidates.

The criminals, waiting for the end of the event, shot and killed Fernando Villavicencio. This happened on August 9 in Quito.

The seriously wounded politician was taken to the hospital, where he died without regaining consciousness.

What happened to the killer

A little later it became known that one of the suspects in Villavicencio’s murder died from injuries received during arrest.

TASS reported this with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ecuador.

After the incident, the Organization of American States demanded increased security for Ecuadorian presidential candidates, who announced that they were suspending their election campaigns.

As for the deceased suspect, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, he was wounded during a shootout with security officers.

He was then detained and taken in serious condition to the prosecutor’s office in Quito. Emergency doctors confirmed his death.

Wounded and detained

As a result of the attack on the presidential candidate, at least nine other people were injured, including a candidate for the National Assembly and two police officers.

According to the Ecuavisa TV channel, law enforcement officers detained two suspects in the murder of the candidate, and in total, according to preliminary data, three people shot at him.

Later, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced the detention of six suspects following raids in two areas of Quito.

We would like to add that early presidential and parliamentary elections in Ecuador are scheduled for August 20.

The murdered Fernando Villavicencio, according to polls, was ranked fifth in popularity among local voters.
