Presidential elections begin in Egypt

On December 10, Egyptian presidential elections began with the opening of polling stations.

The polling stations opened at 10:00 Moscow time. The elections will last from December 10 to 12. 67 million people will take part in them.

Voting will take place in 9,376 polling stations, and the process will be observed by 220 invited representatives from 14 states, MIA reports.

In addition to the current President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the following are taking part in the race:

Hazem Omar – leader of the Republican People’s Party;

Abdel Sanad Yamama – head of the liberal Wafd Party;

Farid Zahran is the chairman of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party.

Voting outside Egypt took place from December 1 to 3, in 121 states.

Data on the results of the first round will be made public on December 18.

If necessary, a second round will take place in January 2024.

Let us recall that according to the results of the 2019 referendum, the presidential term was increased to six years.

If he wins, the current Egyptian president will remain in power until 2030.
