The current head of state, Nicolas Maduro, won the presidential elections in Venezuela.

Thus, he will rule the country for another six-year period.

The head of the National Electoral Council (NEC) of Venezuela, Elvis Amoroso, informed about the voting results.

As the TASS agency, the latter stated that according to the results of counting 80% of the votes, 5,150,092 voters (51.2% of the total number of citizens who voted) voted for Maduro’s candidacy.

The main competitor of the Venezuelan leader, Edmundo Gonzalez, was supported by 4,445,978 voters (44.2%).

The remaining 8 candidates for the highest official position of the republic received a total of 4.6% of the votes.

Señor Amoroso also explained the reason for the delay in announcing the election results.

According to him, it happened due to an “attack on the data transmission system” of NIS.

Specifics of local legislation: The National Electoral Council issues the first final ballot after the trend in the vote count becomes irreversible.

Accordingly, further calculations – up to 100% of the protocols – will not affect the situation, although the indicators may differ slightly from the first ballot.

In other words: the winner has already been finally determined. It was Nicolas Maduro.
