A group of prosecutors rose up last Friday (6) against the Attorney General of São Paulo, and asked for a collective resignation from one of the sectors that directly advises him.

“On the opportunity in which we congratulate Your Excellency, we take advantage of this to respectfully and gratefully for the opportunity granted so far, to resign from the honorable advisory functions of the Attorney General’s Office that have been entrusted to us”, says the resignation letter.

It is signed by promoters Susana Henriques da Costa, Sirleni Fernandes da Silva, Juliana de Sousa Andrade, Eduardo Tostes, Paula de Figueiredo Silva, Maria Cecilia Aufleri Nacle, Cristiane Correa de Sousa Hilal and Renata de Oliveira Rivitti.

The document says that “the biography of each of the signatories attests to our compliance with the 1988 Federal Constitution and the defense of social rights” and that “we feel little listening to this management and a lack of understanding and appreciation of the work developed in recent years, which culminated in the disrespectful tone evident in a meeting held yesterday.”

It also states that “our public trajectory and loyalty that we have always demonstrated are not compatible with the positions reported above, which makes it unfeasible for us to remain in the Civil Support and Collective Protection Center and in the Center for the Incentive of Self-Compliant Practices”.

The area is one of the most important in MP-SP, responsible for guiding promoters in case of complex doubts, as well as formulating internal and external lines of action. It also carries out dialogue with civil society, NGOs, associations, entities and institutions.

The trigger for the crisis, according to the sides involved, was the attorney general’s refusal for the group to travel to a Human Rights Congress in Natal (RN).

In conversation with the CNNthe attorney general of São Paulo, Paulo Sergio de Oliveira, said that he learned that seven prosecutors issued tickets to Congress without authorization from their superiors.

“I then held a meeting with them who had an offensive attitude towards the attorney general. And I asked for information about the trip, which generates a high cost to the treasury. They got upset and decided to unite and leave the group,” she told CNN.

He denies that he was disrespectful. “I was not inelegant and disrespectful, but I was firm and vehement. I took advantage and demanded more results from the group in addition to satisfying the reason why seven promoters from a group of ten needed to go to a congress in Natal. It was nothing personal,” he concluded.

The prosecutors who resigned sent the CNN the following note:

“We confirm that, due to internal differences, we have collectively resigned from our positions as advisors, with the certainty that the Public Ministry, an institution dedicated to defending social rights, will continue to fulfill its constitutional role.”
