The Serbian opposition once again brought its supporters to the streets of Belgrade. The protesters put forward new demands on the authorities and even blocked traffic on the streets of Belgrade.

In the evening, those gathered walked several blocks towards the police department, and then went home.

Supporters of the opposition bloc “Serbia against violence” took to the streets demanding the release of detained activists from the protest that took place the day before, writes MIA “”.

The day before it became known that after the attempt to storm the Assembly and after the dispersal of the demonstrators by security forces, at least 35 people were detained.

Pro-Western representatives of the Serbia Against Violence bloc demanded that the authorities release them, but went home to no avail.

How it was

In the afternoon, a group of several hundred students gathered in front of the building of the Ministry of State Administration and Self-Government. As a result, traffic was blocked.

After this, the activists went out to the main street, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Serbian government and the buildings of the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense destroyed during NATO bombing are located.

There were demands to make the voter lists public. At about 20:00 Moscow time, protesters gathered at the Republican Election Commission and blocked street traffic.

An hour later, the column moved to the police headquarters, where they decided to seek the release of the detainees. But after walking a few blocks, the crowd began to disperse.

It was decided to postpone the continuation of the protest until the evening of December 26.

Reasons for the protests

Let us recall that on December 17, early elections to the Assembly were held in Serbia, in which the coalition of the ruling party of President Aleksandar Vucic won (46.66%).

The opposition refused to recognize the results and has been leading people to protests since December 18.

Earlier it became known that at the beginning of 2024 the EU would approve €50 billion in aid to Ukraine.
