Protocols on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO will be signed on July 5

45views

The signing of protocols on Sweden and Finland’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance will take place on July 5.

For Sweden and Finland to join NATO, these protocols will have to be ratified by all 30 member states of the alliance.

NATO informed about this on July 4.

How will the signing take place?

It is reported that the signing ceremony will be attended by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the Foreign Ministers of Sweden and Finland Ann Linde and Pekka Haavisto.

The NATO press service clarified that negotiations on joining the alliance, which usually last several years, will take place at the organization’s headquarters on Monday behind closed doors.

Let us remind you that Sweden and Finland submitted applications to join NATO on May 18.

On June 28, on the eve of the NATO summit, Turkey, which initially blocked the admission of Sweden and Finland to the alliance, signed a memorandum with them allowing entry, after which Stockholm and Helsinki were officially invited to NATO.
