The national president of the PSD, , said, this Tuesday (8), that the PT will be the “balancer” to define who will be the successor to Arthur Lira (PP-AL) as president of the Chamber.
In an interview with WW (Monday to Friday, at 10pm), Kassab said that the changes in the election scenario, mainly with the departure of the current vice-president of the House, Marcos Pereira (Republicanos-SP), opening up new possibilities, mainly for the Union Brazil.
“We had a very important change. Marcos Pereira — who was a very strong candidate, very respected, with a good track record in the government, in the opposition —, when he gives up being a candidate, he creates conditions for União Brasil to leave that base that was being built by Lira to have a candidate from the Lira base”, said Kassab.
Kassab, also state secretary of government of São Paulo, also mentioned , who joined forces for the dispute.
“União Brasil from Elmar’s bench, the PSD from Brito’s bench reached an understanding and will walk together. That gives us 100 votes,” Kassab said.
Regarding candidate Hugo Motta, chosen by Lira to be his successor, Kassab analyzed that he “does not have the same prestige as Marcos Pereira in some wings, for example, of the government”.
And, from this, the role of the PT comes into play. “I believe that the PT, for example, will at some point define itself correctly and are moving forward with this decision. And they will have to make a bet on whether they will keep Hugo Motta, whose important asset is his excellent relationship with Ciro Nogueira, who is the main leader of the opposition, with Eduardo Cunha, with Arthur Lira, or Elmar or Brito on the other side”, quoted Kassab.
