Putin and Xi Jinping made an important joint statement

On Monday, June 28, a dialogue took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The event was held in video conference format. It was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the treaty between Russia and China on good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation.

Having congratulated each other, the heads of state assessed the current state of partnership relations between the countries and their further development, informs the President of Russia.

The parties also discussed issues relevant to Moscow and Beijing, and as a result of the conversation, a joint statement was adopted.

Putin and Xi Jinping announced the extension of the Treaty of Good Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation.

According to the President of Russia, the signed document contains the most important agreements.

Among them are “mutual support in protecting state unity and territorial integrity, refusal to be the first to use nuclear weapons and from mutual targeting of strategic missiles.”

Vladimir Putin also noted that the document stipulates the absence of mutual territorial claims.

In addition, the agreement stipulates that Russia and China are determined to turn their common border into a “belt of eternal peace and friendship.”

Earlier, in March 2021, Moscow and Beijing agreed that the Good Neighborhood Agreement would be automatically extended for another 5 years.
