In his speech at the G20 summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the dangers of global warming for Russia.

According to the Russian leader, on the territory of the Russian Federation the growth rate of average annual temperature is ahead of global indicators.

Putin noted that thanks to its forests, Russia has unique capabilities for absorbing carbon. The broadcast was conducted on the TASS YouTube channel.

But in the last 10 years alone, the temperature in the country has increased by almost 0.5 degrees.

I would like to note that the average annual temperature in Russia is growing faster than the global temperature – more than 2.5 times. Over 10 years, it has increased by almost 0.5 degrees,” said Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, the rate of warming in the Arctic is even higher, the Russian leader noted.

And this despite the fact that the Russian Federation actively participates in international agreements on preserving the planet’s climate.

All undertaken obligations “under the UN Framework Convention” are being fulfilled, the president noted.

As for the potential of Russian forests, water bodies, seas and swamps, then, according to Putin, Russia has unique capabilities to absorb carbon and harmful emissions.
