The Russian President answered the corresponding question following his visit to Uzbekistan.

Putin on legitimate power in Ukraine

The politician emphasized: the situation in Ukraine must be seriously analyzed.

Putin recalled that the Ukrainian Constitution only allows for the extension of the powers of parliament, but not the powers of the president.

However, there is a Ukrainian law according to which, during martial law, presidential elections are not held on the territory of an Eastern European country.

However, the law does not provide for the continuation of the powers of the President of Ukraine in such a situation.

Referring to the laws of Ukraine and the assessment of experts, Putin made the following conclusion about power in the Eastern European republic:

The only legitimate authority remains the parliament and the speaker of the Rada, – said Putin, whose words were on the official Internet portal of the Russian President.

At the same time, the head of the Russian state emphasized: such an assessment is preliminary.
