Queen Margrethe II of Denmark decided to abdicate the throne: she ruled the country for 52 years

In two weeks, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will abdicate the throne. Her reign lasted more than half a century.

The 83-year-old representative of the Danish royal family plans to pass the throne to her son Frederick.

This is reported with reference to a statement by the queen of a European country.

Margrethe II noted that she recently underwent surgery. Thanks to the professionalism of the doctors, the surgical intervention was completed successfully.

However, the current situation made the queen think about the future of the Danish monarchy.

A representative of the Danish royal family assumed the throne in early 1972. Before this, her father Frederick IX was the king of Denmark.

During the reign of Margrethe II, 11 people managed to head the Danish government.

Margrethe II is the first European monarch to visit the Soviet Union. This happened in 1975.

The Danish queen is expected to abdicate in mid-January. Her successor should be 55-year-old Crown Prince Frederik.
