The department emphasized that all the people who were detained on Tuesday for illegally crossing the border with the EU introduced themselves as Iraqi citizens.
It is noted that migrants will be checked for coronavirus infection.
During the period of testing and analysis of results, illegal immigrants will be in isolation.
Migration crisis in Lithuania
In 2021, the Baltic country is faced with a migration crisis: a huge number of illegal immigrants have entered its territory.
Since the beginning of the year, Lithuanian border guards have detained 3,027 people trying to illegally enter the European Union.
For comparison: in 2020, the number of illegal migrants in Lithuania was 81. Thus, in less than seven months of this year, the figure is already 37 times higher than last year.
Taking into account the current situation, the Lithuanian authorities decided to strengthen the security of the border with the Republic of Belarus.
