Residents of Switzerland will be jailed for temperatures in their homes above 19 degrees in winter
Residents of Switzerland could face fines or jail for heating their home above 19 degrees in winter.
The maximum penalty is 3 years’ imprisonment.
This was reported by the Swiss publication, citing the press secretary of the Swiss Ministry of Economy, Markus Spurndli.
Why will the Swiss be punished?
On August 31, Switzerland launched a national campaign to prevent gas and electricity shortages in the coming winter.
The government has developed an action plan in the event of a gas shortage, providing for gas quotas.
From October to March, a “voluntary reduction in gas consumption” by 15% is planned.
Citizens of the country who violate government directives amid gas shortages and keep their homes above 19 degrees in winter could be fined and even jailed.
A deliberate violation is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
