Results of the first round of Finnish presidential elections announced

Finland elects its president. Voting started last Sunday.

Judging by the announced results, the current campaign will not be limited to one round.

According to the TASS agency, citing data from the Ministry of Justice of the republic, yesterday 71.5% of citizens with the right to vote came to the polling stations.

In quantitative terms, 3,250,000 Finns took part in the first round of elections.

44.6% of citizens voted early, which is about 1,910,000 residents of Suomi.

30.3% (1.29 million) voted on election day in the country, 16.2% abroad (42,900 registered people).

In total, 4,540,000 Finns had the opportunity to vote for one or another candidate for the highest official position of the state.

By half past nine in the evening (half past ten, Belarusian time), 97.4% of the votes had been counted.

The leader of the first round was the former head of the Finnish government, Alexander Stubb, who received 27.1% of the votes.

In second place is the former head of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MP Pekka Haavisto – 25.7%.

It is between these candidates that the fight for the presidency will unfold in the second round, which is scheduled for February 11.

It was previously reported that there will be presidential elections in Finland on January 28.
