OX (formerly Twitter) stated, in a statement released on Wednesday night (18), that the social media platform’s service was restored in an “inadvertent and temporary” manner in Brazil following a change in the company’s network provider .

Yesterday, , which has been blocked in the country since the 30th, by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

“When X was deactivated in Brazil, our infrastructure to provide service to Latin America was no longer accessible to our team. To continue providing optimal service to our users, we have changed network providers. This resulted in an inadvertent and temporary restoration of the service for Brazilian users”, says the statement from the social network.

“While we expect the platform to become inaccessible again soon, we continue efforts to work with the Brazilian government to resume it very soon for the people of Brazil,” the notice ends.

A CNN contacted the STF to comment on X’s statements and is awaiting a response.

Expert explains “return” of X in Brazil

Technology expert Arthur Igreja explained in yesterday’s edition of Backstage CNN that X made a change in the routing that leads to the platform.

“X changed address. So he went through another range of IPs and then people are able to reach this new address”, explained the specialist.

In addition to the change in the IP address, X also implemented a change in the access path using technology from the company CloudFair.

“It’s as if it were the company that tells the user the route they will take until they reach X”, he explained. This strategy allows some users to access the platform, bypassing the restrictions imposed.

Complex scenario

Church warns of the complexity of the situation: “We have a much more complex chessboard. It was already complex, but it becomes even more complex.”

He mentions that CloudFlare technology is used by several Brazilian government agencies, including GOV.br.

The expert also warns that, if CloudFlare is notified and also taken offline, there could be “real chaos on the Brazilian internet”.
