Negotiations between representatives of Russia and NATO started in Brussels today, January 12, 2022.
As previously reported, the parties will discuss one of the most pressing issues of recent days – mutual security guarantees.
The same topic became the cornerstone of the negotiations between Russia and the United States that took place last week.
As for the event related to the North Atlantic Alliance, the Russian side is represented here by the Deputy Foreign Minister.
NATO is represented by the organization’s Secretary General, the Belarus 1 TV channel reported.
They also noted the following point: experts do not expect major decisions from this meeting, since such decisions “are not taken in Brussels and not by politicians of similar rank.”
By the way, the Kremlin’s position remains unchanged: the North Atlantic Alliance must provide guarantees of non-expansion to the east and the withdrawal of its units from Eastern Europe.
According to Moscow, this option will allow us to return to the situation observed a quarter of a century ago.
NATO does not agree with Russia’s conditions, but, like the West as a whole, agrees to dialogue with Moscow.
