According to the Russian defense department, today over the Barents Sea a base patrol aircraft P-8A Poseidon of the Norwegian Air Force was detected approaching the Russian border.
To prevent border violations, a MiG-31 from the air defense forces on duty was scrambled into the air.
As the Russian plane approached, the Poseidon turned away from the border.
There was no border violation, the MiG-31 returned safely to its home airfield.
The Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized that the Mig-31 carried out the flight in accordance with international regulations and in compliance with safety measures.
