Scholz called on the EU to signal to Russia that assistance to Ukraine will not weaken

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on the European Union to signal to Russia that assistance to Ukraine will not weaken.

The head of the German government made this statement on December 11 at a press conference in Berlin.

What Scholz called for

The German Chancellor said that the European Union and its allies must assure Ukraine of continued support.

According to him, efforts to help Ukraine in the long term need to be given shape.

Now this is a war that, differently than perhaps predicted at the beginning, will still last a long time– quotes Scholz.

According to the German Chancellor, if the EU can send a signal of long-term support for Ukraine, this will also be a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Scholz noted that Putin is likely hoping that the West’s willingness to support Ukraine will weaken.

It would be an important signal if we told him: “Don’t count on it”! – said the head of the German government.

The total volume of financial, military and humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine by Germany since February last year has exceeded 25 billion euros.

In November it was reported that Berlin intends to increase aid to Ukraine next year from 4 to 8 billion euros.
