German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz said that the country will not supply cluster munitions to Ukraine.

The German Chancellor made this statement on July 10 at a press conference with the head of the Australian government, Anthony Albanese.

What Scholz said about the supply of cluster munitions to Ukraine

Commenting on the US decision to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine, Scholz recalled that Germany had signed an international convention prohibiting their use.

Therefore, we can say on our own that we will not do this, – said the head of the German government.

The Australian Prime Minister, in turn, said that Australia does not have such weapons.

Answering a question about possible security guarantees for Ukraine, Scholz said that there is now a discussion on what they will look like when the conflict ends.

Here the discussion is still far from over, – added the German Chancellor.

Let us recall that on July 7, US National Security Assistant to the President Jake Sullivan said that Washington had decided to transfer cluster munitions to Ukraine and that the Ukrainian authorities had provided written guarantees that the risks to civilians from the use of cluster munitions would be minimized.

Earlier, Deputy Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General Farhan Haq said that Antonio Guterres supports the Convention on Cluster Munitions and opposes their use.
