4views

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke about whether new nuclear power plants will appear in Germany and what is generally happening with nuclear energy in the country.

The politician noted that the construction of new stations will take 15 years and at least 15 billion euros, so nuclear power in Germany is over.

Olaf Scholz spoke about this in an interview with the local radio station Deutschlandfunk.

Peaceful atom in Germany

He recalled that shutdown nuclear power plants are being dismantled in Germany.

By the way, the authorities turned off the last three nuclear power plants – Isar-2, Neckarwestheim-2 and Emsland – on April 15 of this year.

According to plans, the stations were to be disconnected from the country’s energy grid before January 1, 2023, but the conflict in Ukraine prevented the implementation of the plan.

What Scholz said

Answering a question about the possibility of resuming operation of German nuclear power plants and discussing this topic, Scholz answered categorically.

I don’t think so because nuclear power is over. It is no longer used in Germany,” MIA quotes Scholz as saying.

In addition, Scholz noted that the construction of a new nuclear power plant will take 15 years, and 15-20 billion euros will have to be spent on one facility.

Currently, the German government advocates expanding the use of renewable energy sources.
