The ZDF publication reports the words of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that Ukraine has recognized the impossibility of joining NATO in the foreseeable future.
The Chancellor said that Ukraine currently understands that it is not yet possible to hold negotiations on joining the alliance.
Scholz’s statement is also conveyed that Ukraine’s admission to NATO is impossible due to the military conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The German Chancellor added that at the moment the priority is to improve the defense capability of the Ukrainian army.
At the moment, Ukraine has the status of a candidate to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
However, it is unknown when exactly accession negotiations between NATO and Kyiv will begin.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov reported that the threat of Ukraine joining NATO was one of the reasons for the start of a special military operation.
In any case, even the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky understands that joining NATO cannot take place while the war is raging in the country.
