What Scholz said about the conflict in Ukraine

Scholz, who has served as chancellor since December 2021, made his first official visit to Austria.

The meeting of the heads of government of the two countries took place in Salzburg.

This war in Europe requires us to think critically about our assumptions and also be prepared to make uncomfortable decisions. – the German Chancellor said at a press conference with his Austrian counterpart.

Scholz noted that Germany had not supplied weapons to other countries for decades, but broke this tradition in connection with the conflict in Ukraine.

The head of the German government emphasized that Berlin, together with its allies, is firmly committed to providing Ukraine with military, political and financial support for as long as necessary.

Any support from our partners will be welcome, – Scholz added.

Despite the fact that Austria has joined the European Union’s anti-Russian sanctions, its authorities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of the country’s neutral status.

In June, Nehammer said Austria’s neutrality had been taken into account when the EU developed future security guarantees for Ukraine.

In July, the head of the Austrian government announced support for Brazil’s initiative to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
