0views

It recently became known that one of the B61 nuclear bombs could have been damaged at the American Volkel airbase in the Netherlands.

If experts officially confirm the information, the emergency will be the first incident of this kind in recent years.

This statement was made by representatives of the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), publishing a corresponding report on their website.

Photo

According to TASS, the crux of the matter lies in a photograph shown to students at a briefing at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2022.

The photo captured four US military personnel inspecting a damaged object that in appearance resembled a B61 nuclear bomb.

This projectile is believed to have a curved rear end. Also, one of the tail fins is missing.

At the same time, no official confirmation has yet been provided that the picture shows the same damaged B61 nuclear bomb.

According to the author of the report, FAS nuclear information director Hans Christensen, the photo does not rule out a dummy, while the damage could have been caused by an accident.

Scientist’s opinion

He believes that the photo was taken at an air base in the Netherlands, arguing that the appearance of the hangar, which he compared with available photographs of that same air base.

The scientist also draws attention to the fact that the two military men captured in the photo are wearing uniforms with the insignia of an explosive ordnance disposal team.

And the private with them is holding a folder with red marks in his hands, which are similar to documents declassified and published by the Pentagon.

If Christensen’s assumptions are officially confirmed, the incident will be the first documented case of damage to American nuclear weapons in Europe in recent years.
