Scientists from Switzerland told what awaits the Earth in the future: is it heating up or cooling down?

36views

Scientists from Switzerland published their forecast about the future of planet Earth, which is fundamentally different from previously published scenarios.

Employees of the ETH Zurich believe that the core of the planet, and with it the Earth itself, is cooling one and a half times faster than thought.

The results of the work were published in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

Having studied the materials of the intermediate layer of the planet in laboratory conditions, scientists found out what processes occur in the bowels of the Earth.

We found that thermal conductivity at the mantle-core boundary is about one and a half times higher than we thought. This indicates a higher heat flux from the core and, therefore, higher mantle convection, MIA quotes an excerpt from a scientific publication.

This is how assumptions arose that throughout the history of its existence the Earth has already cooled, and this changes previous views on the process of its evolution.

Scientists are inclined to believe that further cooling of the planet’s core will one day finally reduce the Earth’s activity, and it will turn into something like Mars or Mercury.
