Scientists have predicted a global catastrophe for humanity: when can it happen?

0views

Researchers shared a disappointing forecast: in 40 years, a catastrophe may occur on Earth.

Its epicenter will be the “ice continent” – Antarctica.

The corresponding conclusions are available on the scientific portal Phys.org.

As scientists have noted, a huge amount of ice has currently accumulated in Antarctica – 10 times more than in Greenland, which also worries environmentalists.

According to expert calculations, the melting of Antarctica’s glaciers will continue over the next decades.

The critical point may be reached in 2060.

Researchers believe that during this period a lot of water will enter the World Ocean, as a result of which the level of the Earth’s water shell will seriously rise.

This process will result in numerous natural disasters, including floods. Residents of coastal areas will be the first to suffer.

How to prevent a potential disaster

Experts note that the cause of the melting of glaciers is global warming.

The increase in average air temperature is associated with a difficult ecological situation caused by anthropogenic impact on the environment.

Scientists say the only way to prevent a catastrophe is a sharp reduction in greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

To achieve this, we need to combine the efforts of many countries. If this does not happen in the coming decades, the consequences of global warming will become irreversible.
