Scientists have predicted a new powerful earthquake in Istanbul and the Sea of Marmara region.
In particular, such a warning was made by Haluk Eyıdoğan, professor of seismology and member of the Council of Scientists of the Istanbul City Hall on Earthquake Issues.
According to him, the magnitude of the next “tremor” may exceed level 7, and the economic consequences of it will be felt by the whole country.
According to forecasts, if the fault is activated in the Sea of Marmara, a powerful earthquake will occur, – say scientists.
According to them, the probability of such a cataclysm before 2030 is about 50%.
It is noted that scenarios for potential developments have already been developed, and the Istanbul City Hall has assessed in advance the possible number of victims and collapses.
Eyıdoğan says all of Türkiye will feel significant economic impacts, as Istanbul contributes 35% of the nation’s GDP.
An earthquake in the Sea of Marmara will immediately affect seven provinces, the population of which exceeds 25 million people; it is difficult to even imagine how significant the damage will be caused, – a specialist from MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
He warned residents of Tekirdag, Canakkale, Yalova, Bursa and some other cities that they were not safe, as the disaster could affect the entire region.
Let us recall that as a result of the February earthquakes in Turkey with a power of 7.7 and 7.6 points, more than 55,000 people died.
