President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky fired the Chief of the General Staff of the country’s Armed Forces Sergei Shaptala.

The head of state appointed Anatoly Bargilevich, who had previously commanded the territorial defense forces, to this position.

The President thanked the suspended lieutenant general for his service “during these two years of war.”

At the suggestion of Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky, he appointed Major General Anatoly Bargilevich as the new Chief of the General Staff, the Ukrainian leader said.

Prior to this, Zelensky replaced Valery Zaluzhny as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the former commander of the Ground Forces, Alexander Syrsky.

According to the president, the new chief of the General Staff is an experienced person who understands the “tasks and goals” of Kyiv.

In addition, Syrsky presented Zelensky with the candidacies of his deputies; decrees on their appointment are expected to be signed.

Commander-in-Chief Syrsky has identified candidates for deputies, and I will sign the corresponding decrees,” the president said.

And he added: the deputy heads of the General Staff have also already been identified.

He also informed that Syrsky and the head of the Ministry of Defense Rustem Umerov held negotiations with German, French and American partners.

According to Zelensky, during these conversations the parties discussed the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.
