Spain will no longer purchase AstraZeneca vaccine

0views

Spain has refused further purchases of the Oxford coronavirus vaccine Astra Zeneca for mass vaccination of the local population.

This decision was made by the Spanish Ministry of Health. Previously, the department planned to purchase another 31 million doses.

Local media, citing a message from the Ministry of Health, write that Spain will no longer participate in the procurement of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The official reason for the refusal was side effects that were repeatedly detected in the drug.

Currently, the authorities are sending the remaining components of the drug to the autonomous regions, but only to complete the vaccination that has begun.

The Oxford development is used to vaccinate citizens over 60 years of age.

According to published data, 78% of the population aged 60 to 69 years has been vaccinated in Spain.

The population aged 70-79 years is 97.6% vaccinated.

The population over 80 years of age is 100% vaccinated.

It is known that Spain received 10.3 million doses out of the planned volume.

The authorities will transfer all remaining vaccines to other countries as part of the COVAX program – global access to Covid vaccines.

Let us remind you that earlier EU countries suspended the purchase of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Then the reason was the increased incidence of thrombosis in vaccinated people.
