Stampede in India: more than 120 people killed

A massive stampede occurred at a religious meeting in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

As a result of the incident, 121 people died, another 28 citizens were injured and taken to hospitals.

The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday, July 2, during a meeting of people with religious preacher Bhole Baba.

It is reported that the event was attended by about 50,000 people. Criminologists and forensic experts are working at the scene of the emergency.

A criminal case has been opened against the organizers of the meeting regarding the incident.

Now law enforcement officers are looking for the preacher himself, who disappeared immediately after the incident.

Police raided his charity, Ram Kutir, and his home.

According to reports, the stampede began as Baba was leaving a meeting.

Citizens ran after him, wanting to touch the feet of the religious figure, thereby expressing their veneration.

Many fell to the ground. Baba’s security guards blocked the exit from the site where the meeting was taking place until his car drove away.

During this time, the people who found themselves on the ground were trampled.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a thorough investigation to answer the question of whether it was an accident or a conspiracy.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the dead and injured and said that they would be paid monetary compensation.
