Long-suffering Iceland is once again shaken by the violence of a volcano: an eruption occurs on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
The situation is so serious that the country’s authorities have declared a state of emergency.
The TASS agency reported this with reference to the RUV television and radio company.
The latter clarifies: the decision to introduce a state of emergency was made by the commissioner of the national police of Iceland in agreement with the chief of police of the peninsula.
It is known that the eruption started at 12 hours 46 minutes (15 hours 46 minutes Belarusian time).
Due to a very serious danger, the authorities evacuated the town of Grindavik, located near the raging volcano.
By the way. Since the end of October, 24,000 tremors have been recorded in that region, the strongest of which was estimated at 5.2 points.
Experts say: seismic activity indicates a high probability of a volcanic eruption in that area.
Since 2021, the Reykjanes Peninsula has experienced several eruptions. The last one was in March of this year.
Earlier, a red alert level was announced in Delhi – it crossed the mark of +52 degrees.
